5 of my Favorite Books Relating to Women's Health
We’ve all heard the infamous saying, “knowledge is power”, and by that I mean we’ve all heard it at least a dozen times in high school, middle school, and in the speeches of aspiring leaders. There is an infinite amount of possibilities in the realm of learning and acquiring knowledge. Our minds are always expanding and open to more information. When struggling with health issues or just trying to correct your health patterns in general, knowledge is the key defining force. Knowledge of your own body and patterns, knowledge of what research and studies are available on hand, knowledge about the potential products available to add to your arsenal. The list goes on.
When it comes to a health disorder like Endometriosis, knowledge can be hard to find. This is in part due to the lack of research centered around women's health as well as the lack of awareness and discussion about these topics of health.
My goal as a part of the women's health community, and as an Endo warrior myself, is to spread as much awareness on the field of women's health through product recommendations, reviews, and advice from personal experience.
In this blog I will be sharing some of my favorite health/women's health books that personally assisted me in my health journey. I will also be sure to include the links to each of the books. Let’s get started!
As I was navigating through my health issues related to Endometriosis, this book quite literally kept me sane. From the endless reassurance, to accessible recipes, and relay of important information, this book was my powerhouse! I can not recommend this book enough! Reading this book actually gave me further insight into having Endo before I was clinically diagnosed. Give her a read, you will not be let down!
This one is a bit more geared towards feminine health for all females, regardless of age, or the potential of having a condition like Endometriosis. Reading Period Power enables a sense of empowerment, to the systems that have often defined a woman. The insight to be gained from Period Power is so special, and personal. By discussing women's health more often, we can slowly eliminate the taboo of health topics, thus creating more awareness and a safe space to share our vulnerabilities.
Another great Endometriosis related read. Highly recommended by several of my health practitioners and women's health advocates, so you know there’s got to be at least a few good nuggets of information in there (and there definitely are). Similar in concept to Know Your Endo, but a different perspective from a different author. You can never have too much information on your health!
This is less of a novel-esque read and more of a recipe book. Regardless, a great collection of anti-inflammatory recipes with a wide variety of food groups and cravings to appease. Explore the recipes throughout the book and find what works best for you! Like I’ve said before, everyone operates differently, especially when it comes to food and digestion. Try and experiment with recipes and rotate them to allow for sufficient nutrients to be consumed, while also accommodating individual dietary restrictions and such. Anti-inflammatory foods are beneficial to everyone, but there are even more benefits for someone who is already under more amounts of physical and mental stress related to health issues.
Moving on from women’s health specific books, this read is one of my favorites, period. Such an insightful, inspiring, and influential journey. You’ll learn better forms of coping and processing emotions, and the uncertainty of life in general. Like therapy, I believe that everyone could benefit from reading this book. For someone who is struggling with health issues, reading The Four Agreements can be a great tool to exploit as it touches on uncertainty, emotions, and thoughts. Our inner world (what goes on in our brain) helps define our physical, external reality. No, reading this book will not take away your Endometriosis, but it can certainly help you navigate the mental perils of such struggles.
Everyone has a story to share. No book is the same, no author writes with the same pen, intentions, or font. There is never a limit to how much we can learn about life, health, and ourselves. We are all a work in progress, and the more we work together with the assistance of education, awareness, and kindness, the brighter we can make the communities around us.
As always, feel free to reach out with any questions, or if you’d like to share some thoughts!!
As you dance through life, choose to be kind,
To your aching body and your tired mind.
My struggles may not be yours, nor yours mine,
But I’ll always be here to RAYS YOUR VIBE.
